By mid 2009 Oscar Palacios started his research to establish aquaculture farming in a close recirculating system, initially as a request from a friend and as an answer to a long drought that Venezuela had just came out de year before. This drought was of such severity that not a single drop of rain water fell for a year in regions of the country where normally rains almost every day. A great number of aquaculture ponds dried out and many fish crops were lost. It was necessary to develop an aquaculture technic that would operate with the less possible amount of water. Most of the close cycle recirculating system known by Palacios at that time required to import expensive mechanical and biological filtering equipment, difficult to acquire in a local economy that up to this date exert a total control over currency exchange operations, restricting the access to foreign currencies for international purchases. It was during the course of his investigations that he learned about the existence of Aquaponics.

 

Fascinated by the extraordinary productive capacity of this farming technic that uses less than 5% of the water required for irrigation in traditional agriculture. its production capacity, harvesting seven times more kilograms of vegetable for each kilogram of fish, and envisioning that this would be the future of a new, efficient and sustainable way off producing our food without degrading our planet, Oscar Palacios embarked in to conceiving, designing and developing a new Vertical Aquaponics Farm with emphasizes in environmental conservation and sustainability criteria.

The Aquaponias de Venezuela Foundation was officially constituted at the end of the year 2011 by Oscar Palacios and a group of professionals that assisted him in the process of achieving this new initiative that included new production units denominated by Palacios, Solar Aquapiramides that he developed with cutting edge technologies, extraordinary productive efficiency and economic feasibility that has resulted in solutions to today environmental challenges.

Today, extensive researches to gather a rich, up dated knowledge and understanding about Climate Change, has taken Palacios’ project from a traditional aquaponics farm to a new Green Agroindustry Complex conceive and designed to produce massive quantities of organic, value added food products with a design criteria base on the solutions that humanity need to avoid its alienation and extinction as specie.

 

Like an epiphany, learning about these issues made Palacios realize that besides developing new technologies to fight and/or adapt to many of the threats that Climate Change is putting over our heads, was equally important to teach our civilization on the danger awaiting just around the corner because the waste generated and the non-renewable natural resources consumed with each of our actions, each hour of each day of our existence leaving a deep negative foot print in the planet and how can we stop all this from happening.

 

Palacios understood that we must address consumer to leave their idleness and denial attitude to race their voices to awake the world of the danger of extinction we will face in a not too far away future and understand that is either now or never that we’ll have the chance to do something about it and encourage the awareness toward a wide spectrum of eco-friendly technologies and goods options fossil fuel free already available in the market and currently in use with an excellent track record. Also we must appeal to economists and entrepreneurs to sharpen their ingenuity and resourcefulness to come out with new aggressive strategies to mass distribute new alternative eco-friendly technologies and goods at accessible prices.
